We have a little while before the salons can open again, so we thought we would pull together our top tips for three of the most common hair issues that seem to be part and parcel of not being able to get to your stylist or colourist. Think of it as at-home TLC for your hair, with the help of some expert advice and products that are available from our on-line shop.

Your issue:  Dry hair

A combination of styling with a gusto for Christmas parties and central heating means that hair in January is generally drier than usual. While the parties have been on hold, more time at home this year has meant more exposure to indoor heating, which can make both skin and hair quite parched. Add to that the fact that we need hats while out trying to get our exercise within our 5kms and the freezing cold, and our hair really is quite likely to be fighting the frizz these days.

Our advice: Moisturise, moisturise …. and then moisturise some more

While we would usually suggest beginning with a quick trim, hold off on that until we’re open again. In the meantime, try to reduce the number of times you wash your hair in a week and cut down on heat styling. Working from home certainly has benefits when it comes to both of these! Opt for a super-hydrating shampoo and conditioner that will give your hair the moisture surge it needs. We love Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo for this, as it nourishes and soothes the hair which paves the way for a great shine. For that extra moisture injection, don’t forget about  hair masks and now that you have a little more time at home, pop one on while doing jobs around the house and  work your way to softer hair.

If you prefer to use the same range we highly recommend the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask it’s deep conditioning formula is infused with antioxidant-rich argan oil and nourishing ingredients to replenish moisture levels in the hair while dramatically improving hair’s texture, elasticity, shine and manageability. If you feel that some mask treatments are just too heavy for your hair Moroccanoil do a light version of the hydrating mask above and also Kerastase offer a fantastic mask specifically designed for for fine, dry hair, the Nutritive Masquintense for fine hair.

Your issue: Blonde has become brassy

Lockdown really has highlighted (you know we love a good pun) the fact that being blonde involves a certain amount of professional maintenance. Blonde hair is incredibly porous and its colour is kept in check when your colourist applies toner to counteract brassiness. Your perfect hue isn’t accidental – the right balance of colour and tone were mixed just for you.

Our advice: Step away from the box dyes and bleach

Don’t make our job harder (hello correction visit when we reopen) and your hair weaker. Instead, use a specially formulated colour refresh shampoo to dial down the brassy and brighten the blonde.  Kérastase Blond Absolu is the next best thing to your colourist. The range includes a purple shampoo, mask, serum and leave-in heat protector, all designed to neutralise brassiness and leave hair luminously soft.

Your issue: Hair Loss & Thinning hair

It’s no coincidence that the expression ‘pulling your hair out’ is used to describe something stressful. Covid has brought a variety of changes and stressors that have significant impact on our bodies. For some, that might manifest as thinning hair.

Our advice: We can’t take away all your worries (we wish we could!) but we can help you take some of the stress out of your hair. Kérastase Genesis for hair loss is specially formulated to act as a balm for sensitive scalps and to reinforce the hair fibre. Your hair will be strengthened and nourished – the less brittle the hair is, the less prone it is to fall out.  Comprising three treatments to cleanse, condition, protect and strengthen your hair, the Genesis range is a true (and beautiful smelling) form of self-care.
