Hugh Campbell, founder of the Hugh
Campbell Hair Group in Limerick, entered the
Hairdressing Hall of Leaders when he
was named an ICON of Irish Hairdressing.
|
|
The celebrations took place during a special Irish
Hairdressers Federation awards event at the
Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin on the 14th of June
2009.
It was a night of glamour and excitement for the
hundreds who participated in the event, among those
attending were some of the most talented
hairdressers in the country.
“It’s a recognition of 30 years of dedication to
hairdressing, I am honoured to receive this award”,
says Hugh Campbell, “I want to dedicate it to all my
staff and clients.” |
 |
Hugh’s career can be traced from Tyrone, passing
through Dublin, and settling in Limerick but always
bearing in mind the same idea: hairdressing is all
about client satisfaction and innovation.
After
completing the Hairdressing City and Guilds with
distinction in Tyrone, Hugh began his working career
at The Witches Hut, Dublin, in 1971.
Hugh’s technical
expertise was very much in evidence from an early
stage and this, together with his natural flair and
enthusiasm, quickly established him in the capital.
|
|
Within a few short years Hugh had become the manager
of the Limerick branch of The Witches Hut at 4 The
Crescent. When Tony Rodgers, the owner of this
salon, decided to retire Hugh took over the salon.
Hugh describes the opening of this first salon,
exactly 30 years ago this year, as an opportunity
rather than a decision. It was from this small
basement salon with a staff of less than ten that
Hugh began to grow his business.
From
1979 to the present day the key of the group’s
success remains education, passion and quality. |
|
In
the interim 30 years the group has grown to more
than 100 employees in five different salons, Cats,
Marbles Hair and Beauty, Marbles Hairdressing Castletroy, The River and the newest edition to the
group Melo Yelo which was opened in 2005.
Each
salon has its own personality but the goal is always
the same: delighting the client and bringing
international standards in hairdressing, training,
and service, to Limerick city and county. All of the
salons provide their clients with access to
internationally acclaimed and recognised stylists
and colourists. |
|
Acclaimed by leading fashion and
hair magazines both in Ireland and the UK, the Hugh
Campbell Hair Group has scooped many top
hairdressing awards and regularly gives advanced
seminars in Dublin and throughout the country.
Hugh
Campbell has never believed that a salon can achieve
real success if it is only a one man show. Over the
years Hugh has achieved his goal of building a loyal
and talented team. |
|
Today he directs a group of
hairdressers which includes the Irish Hairdresser of
the Year 2009, the members of the Irish Artistic
Team of the Year 2007 and 2008, winners of the
L’Oreal All Ireland Talent-spotting competition
and previous winners of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy as
well as internationally experienced demonstrators
and session stylists.
Hugh’s own unique hairdressing style is marked by
his aesthetic vision of geometry and symmetry
reflected in low maintenance wearable cuts. |
|
Hugh
displays a well balanced combination of art and
business acumen.
He has never forgotten what
hairdressing is all about: making women feel and
look great. |
